Review: Keurig 2.0 K400

*I received the Keurig 2.0 courtesy of Influenster for review purposes. Thanks Influenster!*

In December I was lucky to receive a fancy Keurig 2.0 to test drive – so let me tell you about it!

Keurig 2.0

What separates the Keurig 2.0 from it’s predecessors is it’s ability to make a carafe of coffee – not just single serving coffee, tea or fancy drinks. This was particularly intriguing to my husband and I since during the week he’ll make coffee just for himself but on weekends we require MORE caffine – very cool that we can make a mini pot with the Keurig 2.0.

Keurig 2.0

The unit took no more thank 10 minutes to set up and looks great in our modern kitchen. The display is clear and easy to follow instructions.

And shocker – it makes coffee!

Disclosure: Our coffee makers of choice have been a 1960’s (no joke, it’s legit vintage) peculator and Kitchen Aid Personal Coffee Maker. Both are compact, and require ground coffee which we don’t mind too much since we LOVE coffee… good coffee. We’re pretty picky.

We’ve had limited exposure to the K-Cup phenomenon, so it was cool to try out the Keurig 2.0! Let’s cut to the chase – what did we think?

-Nice looking unit

-Makes carafe and single cups

-Makes coffee, tea or fancier beverages (depending on what K-Cups you choose to buy)

-No mess, easy to use

-Coffee quality not as good as our peculator or drip

-Locked into buying new K-Cups (more expensive than grinding beans)

-I expected a carafe K-Cup to make 4 cups or so of coffee… in reality it makes 2. When we have guests over it would be more efficient to make a traditional pot of coffee than burn through a bunch of K-cups

Overall, this is a great machine and works extremely well, it just doesn’t surpass our previous coffee ‘situation’ as far as beverage quality is concerned, in our opinion.

I have passed on this Keurig 2.0 to my Mom and Dad who are enjoying it immensely, it’s a perfect fit in my Mom’s office for when she wants a quick cup of coffee or tea. I would recommend this to someone who hates the mess and fuss of dealing with ground coffee – you can literally press a button and have your morning coffee. Pretty amazing!

I hope you found this review helpful, again thank-you to Influenster for giving me the opportunity to review the Keurig 2.0 K400!

Do you own a Keurig or similar system?

Face of the Day

I thought I’d share some new and new-ish products I’ve been LOVING lately, and that might be especially great coming into Spring/Summer.

Brittany Face of the Day

My FOTD – laughing at my husband goofing off! A very natural look since it’s the weekend, but still fun in my opinion ;)

Cargo, Maybelline, The Balm, Bare Minerals

I’ll start with my most recent purchase Cabana Boy by The Balm! Picked it up from London Drugs for 30% off and love love LOVE it!

The Balm BlushI

I think this colour really lends itself to the Radiant Orchid Pantone obsession of 2014. A very purply pink blush with a real sheen to it. VERY pigmented, would look gorgeous on a range of skin tones.

Maybelline Sahara Storm Lipstick

Next most recent is this Maybelline Buffs collections lipstick in Stormy Sahara. This is normally not a lipcolour I would gravitate to, but ItsJudyTime gave this particular shade a big thumbs up – and it looked great on her to boot! So far I love it when I mute out my natural lipcolour with a nude lipliner or concealer.

Cargo Vintage Escape

This is the Cargo Cosmetics Vintage Escape Palette, I snapped this up at Kohl’s last time I was in Seattle. Tati of GlamLifeGuru raaavveedd about this but I just didn’t want to spend the $50ish that it cost in Canada… but for $39 in the states I was sold. The range of colours really lend towards fall/winter looks but I think I’ll get loads of use out of this year round. 10/10, definitely pick this up if you see it!

Bare Minerals Foundation

Last but not least is my Bare Minerals pressed Foundation in Medium Beige. I was a little cautious of this since my skin is normal to dry… but once I tried it I was hooked! Buildable coverage, beautiful satin finish, excellent colour match (for you warm toned/yellow people out there THIS IS THE BOMB), looks amazing in photos (proof above)… I could go on and on.

And that concludes this FOTD! Hope you enjoyed, be sure to share what you’ve been loving for your more relaxed make-up days!

Influenster MysteryBox SOLVED!

It was a very exciting surprise to come home to a very large box in the mail from Garnier! If you read my previous post about the Mystery Brand I was testing out from Influenster then you’ll know what I mean by saying the Mystery is Solved!

Garnier Damage Eraser Influenster

*These products are compliments of Influenster*

The amazing shampoo, conditioner and hair serum for ‘damaged, distressed hair’ turned out to be from this new Garnier Damage Eraser Line! Here you see the Fortifying Shampoo, Conditioner, Split Ends Bandage Serum and Strength Reconstructing Butter (Hair Mask). What’s special about this line is that the formulas contain Phyto-Keratin Complex and Cupuacu Butter.

I have yet to try the Hair Mask yet, but as for the rest of the line I LOVE IT! My hair really does feel much healthier and stronger. Part of this challenge was guessing what brand I was testing (the sample bottles just said L’Oreal, which owns dozens of companies) I originally thought it would be the L’Oreal Professional Hair Care, but then thought it might actually be a higher end product since it worked so well! I’m happy to know it’s a wallet friendly line since I’ll definitely be coming back to these products.

I’ve spotted this in stores already if you’re interested in trying it out (London Drugs if you’re in Canada). Let me know if you do, or if you have a hair care line that YOU love for dry, damaged hair!

L’Oreal MysteryBox from Influenster

I am so pleased to be a part of the Influenster #MysteryBox I wanted to share the first part of this journey which has been working our really well for me :)

Influenster mysterybox l'oreal

These Shampoo, Conditioner and Split End Serum samples were sent to me by Influenster to test out, and try to guess what name/make of what I’ve been using to soothe my dry damaged hair. (the packaging says it’s for distressed, damaged hair, and it’s a L’Oreal company, they own dozens of brands)

Influenster Mystery VoxBox

Here is a photo of my hair after the first use of these products (and a bit of KMS Volumizing Gel). I would have taken a before photo but it wouldn’t have been a fair comparison since it was SO DIRTY. (I only was my hair every 3 days).

I noticed a definite improvement in the texture and look of my hair, it felt softer and healthier after using the mystery product – and this also translated well into the actual look of my hair.

I have used these a second time, and I can safely say there is even more of an improvement in the texture of my hair – I am really happy to be testing out these hair products!

My guess to what they are on the shelves – part of the L’oreal Professional hair care line, maybe called deep repair? L’Oreal owns several brands so it could even be Kerestase, Redken, Pureology, Garnier, Matrix or others.

The shampoo is most likely NOT sulphite free since it did lather really well… I will be thrilled if I’m wrong because I prefer to use sulphite free shampoos to prolong the colour of my dyed hair.

The conditioner is SO THICK, it reminds me of a hair mask…and I love it! All the products have a pleasant smell too. I will be sure to update you when the ‘Mystery Box’ is solved!

Be sure to comment if you think you know what this product is!

Review: Influenster #MapleVoxBox

Hello! It’s been a while but I’m back with some fun reviews for you! Early in December I was fortunate to receive an Influenster Maple Vox Box with some goodies to try out and review over the holidays. **I received all these products complimentary from Influenster for review**

Influenster Maple Vox Box

Included in the Maple Vox Box was: A Montagne Jeunesse Red Clay fabric mask, Impression stick on nails, NYC Big Bold Curl Mascara in Black, NYC Big Bold Plumping Lipgloss in Big City Blush and 2 Skinny Cow Treats – the Clusters and a Wafer one.

First I’ll mention the Skinny Cow treats since I dove into those pretty quick lol. They were both delicious, made for a really nice pick me up in the afternoon or with lunch as a kind of ‘dessert’ with less guilt being VERY low fat and low calorie.

Skinny Cow Clusters Influenster Maple Vox Box

Above is one of them… I want to say each serving was around 120 calories (ie the whole snack). Although I thoroughly enjoyed them I will probably not purchase these because I’m not a fan of heavily processed foods… or low fat foods. I know! Kind of goes against popular belief that low fat is the way to a healthy lean lifestyle… but I firmly feel best when I’m incorporating healthy fats into my meals (ie Dairy, Meats, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, etc). Just being open about my personal preferences :)

Montagne Jeunesse Face Mask Red Clay Influenster

Next up – the luxurious face mask from Montagne Jeunesse infused with Clay, Pomegranate and Cinnamon. They are a company that proudly does NOT test on animals and seem to have a very natural approach to pampering your skin – which I am all for!

I will spare you the ghastly photo of me actually wearing the mask on my face… take my word for it, I used it! And managed to scare the shit out of my husband when he saw it in action… haha.

I cleansed my face first as instructed on the package with my Cetaphil face wash. I wore it for approx. 10 minutes while I used a deep conditioner in my hair in the shower. After taking off the mask I actually squeezed out some of the clay/product from it and massaged  it into my face and neck then rinsed.

The mask promises a DEEP CLEAN, and that’s exactly how my skin felt after. Soft, clean without being dried out.

Easy to apply to face/wear since it’s a fabric face mask

Natural Ingredients, no animal testing

Pleasant smell, results as promised

Doesn’t include the neck area

I kind of like masks that dry up when they’re finished, makes me FEEL like it’s done something… this is really more of a psychological preference

Overall Thoughts: Would definitely purchase again as a treat for my skin!

NEXT UP: The NYC Beauty Products!

I was most excited about these products since they are MAKE UP! Woohoo!

The mascara: Does it make my lashes look longer and fuller? Yes. Does it flake off during the day? No. Does it create a dramatic look? No.

I found the brush to be a bit difficult to work with… sorry I don’t have a photo, but it has quite long bristles, is curved. A more wet formula, any more than 2 coats is really a waste of time because that’s about as far as you’ll get. For the price though, it’s a fantastic option from the drugstore and works really well when pair with some of my drier mascaras to build a more dramatic look!

NYC Big Bold Look Influenster

Here’s a photo of my using the NYC Big Bold Mascara and the NYC Big Bold Plumping Lipgloss in Big City Blush

For the Lipgloss, this might be my favorite product from the entire Vox Box. Over my natural lip colour it gives a beautiful pink flush with dimension thanks to the high lass/glitter factor. It has a slightly tingly effect, minty smell. Not painful at all to wear, not particularly plumping but really beautiful, and LOTS of product! Average lasting power, not very sticky but very comfortable to wear. I would highly recommend this product, it performs as well or better than many other more expensive glosses I own. And again, hard to beat the price point of about $2.99! I’ve heard some of their other colours are VERY pigmented, so I may venture and try some others :)

NYC Big Bold Look Influenster

Another shot of my Big Bold NYC Look!

The last item in the Maple Vox Box is a set of Impress press on manicure nails in the zany neon yellow, orange and purple bubble pattern. If they were a plain colour or more everyday work appropriate I would have given them a test run by now… however they are FAR from everyday appropriate so I’ll hold off on trying them. I love the concept, the colours just aren’t me.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts? I’m excited to venture into more NYC beauty products now that I’ve seen there’s sometime to them!

HAUL! Pixi, L’Oreal, Rimmel

I’ve recently moved back to Vancouver (my hometown) and had a chance to sneak into Target to check out what’s in store. There were a few items from the Philip Lim collection left, but nothing that I HAD to have… so I wandered over to cosmetics :P

Rimmel Nail Polish, Lipstick, Pixi Palette, and L'Oreal Mascara

It’s an eyes, lips and nails haul! I’ll start with the two nail polishes from Rimmel - Burgundy Flirt and English Rose. These were on sale for $3.99 (same with the Kate Moss Lipstick!), and I remember Ms. Essie Button raving about these nail polishes as being exceptionally long lasting and gorgeous, so I thought why not grab these two for fall :)

I have been on a major burgundy kick lately, so I couldn’t resist this lipstick - #107 in the Kate Moss collection.

107 lipstick swatch kate moss rimmel

I love the purple undertones to this deep lipstick, a must have for fall.

rimmel kate moss lipstick

Here is the lipstick in action on my dry lips (sorry!) I LOVE the colour and am pleased with the payoff and the matte finish. I look forward to wearing this soon for an OOTD!

Next, the Early Bird Pallete by Pixi.

pixi early bird palette

This retails for $38 at Target (Canada) and at first I thought… this is a bit steep. But once I swatched a sample palette I was intrigued. You get 3 blushes, 2 bronzers, 1 highlight, 4 base shadows and 16 other eyeshadows. A single blush from Pixi is $16, so when you do the math, this isn’t such a bad deal.

All very neutral, wearable colours. This kit also struck me as being the ultimate travel companion – just bring your brushes, mascara, foundation, concealer and eyeliner and you’re set! I’m looking forward to playing with this more over the next few weeks and plan to do a video with swatches.

Last, but not least, I am about to run out of brown mascara, a must for days I aim for a softer, more natural eye look.

L'Oreal False Lashes Mascara

I’m a fan of the L’Oreal Voluminous mascara, so I thought I’d be a bit adventurous and try the False Lashes Mascara in Brown Black. The packaging is pretty flashy! I will report back on how it performs :)

That concludes this Target Haul, let me know what products you’ve been loving as we enter the fall season!

Review: Tarte Brazillience Self Tanner

It was an exciting time earlier this month, pre-wedding phase! I got married on September 7th in Vancouver, and husband and I moved from Alberta back to Vancouver just the week before. I had zero time to ‘test’ out a spray tan at a salon, so I did some research on a natural looking self-tanner that would do the trick to give me a fabulous wedding glow.

What seemed to have the best reviews and a fair price was the Tarte Brazillience Skin Rejuvenating Maracuja Face And Body Self Tanner (what a name!)

Tarte Brazillience Self Tanner

This self tanner retails for $37 at Sephora, comes with an application mitt and contains 5.5 oz of product. The packaging is GORGEOUS, I’m going to have a hard time throwing it away when it’s all gone!

It smells pretty nice as far as self tanners go, and does feel moisturizing as promised. The mitt is the secret to success with this self tanner, it makes is 10x easier to apply and saves the mess of washing your hands after so your hands can actually keep colour too.

Tarte Brazillience Self Tanner

As pictured above this does have a colour guard, which I like for ease of application. You can SEE where you’ve applied it and gain a bit of tan instantly. After a couple hours the self tanner activates to achieve the full bronzed effect, and looks very natural – NOT orange.

On my wedding day

*Photography by Pink Lotus

This is me on my wedding day (hard to tell eh? LOL) and I had just enough colour to look healthy and glowy, but not so tan that it would make my husband look washed out. I have been so pleased with the results, and will continue to use the Tarte self tanner! I apply about every 3 days to maintain a tan :)

Overall, I give it a 9/10. My only wish is that it would last longer in between applications. What self tanner do you swear by?

Gluten Free Cobbler Recipe

With right now (September) being the last kick at the can for fresh fruit, I found myself with an overflow of peaches and nectarines (my favourites!). So what better than to make dessert out of them!

Piece of Gluten Free Cobbler

This is one I made with blueberries and nectarines, turned out very well!

For a square baking pan, you’ll need:

2 1/2 Cups of sliced, ripe peaches

1/2 cup of brown sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1/4 Cup of melted butter

1 Cup of Gluten Free Flour Mix ( I used Robin Hood)

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup of white sugar

3/4 cup of milk

1 egg

Preheat oven to 375

Pour half of melted butter into pan. In a bowl combine peaches with brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.

In separate bowl combine gluten free flour blend, baking powder, sugar, salt, milk and egg. Whisk together, should have a similar consistency to pancake batter, maybe a bit thicker. Pour 3/4 of the batter into baking pan, pour peach + sugar mixture on top, and top off the cobbler with the last of the batter.

Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Serve warm with whipping cream, ice cream, whipped coconut milk, whatever you like!

Also experiment with different fruit, I made a nectarine and blueberry version for a family dinner and it was a major hit!

Review: Marc Anthony Oil Of Morocco Hair Care

I have been looking forward to sharing this review with you because I have been LOVING this hair care system!

Watch the video below for details on how the Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco line has been working for me :)

It’s worked wonders on my hair, it feels softer and healthier than it has in YEARS, smells wonderful and was very reasonable. I feel like I will be coming back to these products again and again AND they’re sulfate free (which is awesome for if you’ve dyed your hair)

What hair care products do you swear by? I’d love to know!

TOPBOX – July 2013

It’s like Christmas in July! Haha, well maybe not quite… but it’s still nice to come home on a rainy Monday to a new TOPBOX! I am pretty impressed with this month’s products :)

TopBox July 2013

China Glaze Nail Polish – Full Size, in the colour Under The Boardwalk. (Love!)

Belvada Cosmetics, One Moment Essential Day Cream – Sample Size, I think this little jar will be about a weeks worth of use. Contains 24K Gold Flakes, Pearl Protein and Amino Acids.

KMS California ADDVOLUME volumizing spray – Deluxe Sample. Gotta love some extra volume!

B. Kamins BB Cream – Sample Size. It’s too bad this is such a small sample, it would be nice to have more than one use to test out. Seems to be very light coverage.

That’s it for this month’s TOPBOX! Overall I’m pleased with the samples I’ve recieved and look forward to testing everything out. However, I am feeling like I’m not quite getting as great a value as I have been getting out of the ipsy bags… so if next month’s TOPBOX doesn’t blow me away I might cancel my subsription.

Look forward to some reviews as I get a feel for everything and be sure to check back and see what ipsy sent my way this month! .

What subscriptions have you been loving?
